If BNI had a vocabulary that was limited to just three words, GIVE would be one of the three. That’s because while all BNI members know that Givers Gain, most of our chapters are now giving to their favourite local charities as well. In all, BNI Canada gave more than a quarter of a million dollars to charities in 2011 and that number is expected to increase in the coming years. The number will increase because the number of BNI chapters is on the rise and the gross revenue of all the Canadian chapters is expected to grow. In 1999, April Rutka, member of Bloor West BNI, and her sister Sarah heard about a family in their community whose house had burnt down. When they learned that the family did not have a Christmas tree, they dropped one off, much to the family’s delight. The next year they did the same for three others. The year after, the number grew to five. Before long, Holiday Helpers was born. Since then, the charity has grown to provide Christmas packages for 200 low-income families every year, with help from some 300 volunteers. November is BNI Foundation Awareness Month Beth Misner has a special request! The Father of Networking’s wife, Beth has sent a personal message about the BNI Foundation, a non- profit program that supports charitable causes relating to children and education in countries where BNI is operating. BNI Success Network helped contribute over 10,000 pounds in food to the North York Harvest food bank. This is double the amount collected last year. The group presented the event “Midwinter Kitchen Concert,” featuring the bands Two Roads Home and Ceol Cara.
